The Theory Behind Rocket Boots
In Super Mario Bros., Mario and Luigi are introduced to pairs of rocket boots later on in the film – but honestly, these things don't really come off like how they should. Case in point – they're too easy to activate, and when they are, notice that no one really struggles with them. They maintain their perfect structure flying through the air (as if, gasp, they're using wires!), and they don't even need to adjust for weight if two people are standing on them at the same time (like Mario and Luigi are later in the film).
As Robert Downey Jr. demonstrated in the original Iron Man film, jet propulsion fired off by the body takes some getting used to – and is hardly a perfect process. That said, the rocket boots should have reacted differently in the film, causing Luigi to fly into the roof and caved his head in. Probably would've saved us some grief…
