With Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag being revealed recently, it got me thinking about the top 5 pirates in TV and video games that you shouldn't take seriously
Number 1- Blackboard the Pirate, Nick Arcade TV Series
First, a minor history lesson for the younger readers, Nick Arcade was a television program that aired on Nickelodeon in the early 90’s. It was hosted by Phil Moore and had two teams, made up of two players, controlling Mikey the young kid around the different video game style maps. On the maps there were enemies on spaces on the map that would end the teams turn.
This brings me to number 3 on this list. The enemy of the Pirate’s Cove was and I know this will shock the hell out of you, Blackboard the Pirate. Everyone at one time or another comes up with a Blackbeard spoof and this was the Nick Arcade attempt. Blackboard has a peg leg and a hook for a hand, typical pirate stereotype. Combine that with a bandana and an eye patch and you have yourself a made for TV pirate. This pirate had a ruler sword because he’s Blackboard and he needed the school tool. His catch phrase “Walk the plank, ye scallywag” is enough for him to be on this list and to make him an over the top pirate black board thing. Number 1 Blackboard the Pirate.
In Conclusion, it would appear that all the pirates on this list walk the walk and talk the talk. They all have the pirate lingo down, which is one of the reasons that they can’t be taken seriously. Also, they have the look of the pirate down as well. In some cases there are more “out-there” reasons not to take a character seriously as a pirate. It could be the fact they have no arms or they can’t swim as an example. It looks like Assassin’s Creed 4 will do wonders for pirates but on this list, you might not take them seriously, but you can’t help but like these so called pirates.
