Resident Evil 6: The Series, Like Its Characters, Should Remain Dead

The death throes of a gaming titan.

The most interesting feature of the game is it's campaign system, basically instead of following one character throughout the entirety of the game you choose 1 of 4 campaigns each a few hours in length to play through. Leon and Helena's campaign has a very Resident Evil 2 vibe, lots of city streets and the like. Chris and Piers' campaign is basically Gears of War it is so action oriented. Then you have have Jake and Sherry's adventure movie style campaign. Then finally there is Ada Wong's campaign, which is easily the best in my opinion, not only do you play as an underused character, but you play it alone! Finally one of the campaigns allows for moments of tension as you have no-one to watch your back and somewhat clever puzzles. That's not to say the game is without puzzles, it's just in all the other campaigns they are so mind numbingly easy they actually made me feel dumb when I completed them.

In addition to having the most "classic" Resident Evil campaign, Ada also encounters one of my favorite enemy designs. A simple zombie. Without spoiling anything really Ada finds herself in a crypt and encounters a seemingly very old zombie, naked with rotting flesh, mouth agape as it shuffles towards the player. The sad thing is that they probably took the least work to design. All of the other creatures are just people that turn into living guts out to kill you. My biggest complaint is that when you attempt to dispatch an enemy they just grow some enormous tentacle from their newly created orifice to attack you with. I can suspend my disbelief for zombies in a crypt, for zombies of large people that can take more damage, and for flying creatures, but when a creature grows a new limb I am left wondering "Where did it get the mass to grow that? Why didn't it do that earlier?" It's like a child that changes the rules of the game when it starts losing, it's a morbid version of Calvinball.
