We take a trip to Lincoln with Joel and Ellie. Find out more in our preview.
After picking up the bottle, we decided to test the throwing mechanic in the game. As soon as the bottle broke, we were greeted by the disturbing sound of clicking. In The Last Of Us a strain of cordecyps unilateralists, a parasitodial fungus, has mutated and infected the human species. In this demo we witnessed two types of infected. Runners still retain their humanity but are forced by the infection to attack. We also witnessed Clickers. These disfigured freaks have mushroom like growths protruding from their faces and overtaking every orifice. They must use echolocation (i.e. clicking) to navigate their surroundings. As the clicking grew closer, we drew our weapon.
Throwing bricks and bottles can draw enemies out of hiding.
Suddenly a Clicker emerged at the exact location where the bottle was broken. The Clicker began to use echolocation to scan the area. This is where the variety in the gameplay of The Last Of Us presented itself. We had the choice of staying out of the Clicker’s way until it left the area or attacking it. We choose to get our hands dirty and take the clicker out. We choose a our pipe melee weapon from earlier instead of our rifle or pistol so not to draw more attention. As soon as we took care of the first Clicker, another appeared! We used the same weapon to dispose of the next clicker. After exploring the buildings in the area, Joel boosted Ellie over a fence she unlocked it from the other side. This is an example of the teamwork that will be seen in the game, similar to Bioshock Infinite.
