Super Mario Bros. 3 is one of the best Mario games around but what makes the game so great?
Number 4- Level Skip-ability
Like I said in number 5, skipping levels just wasn’t done too much in the days of Mario 1 and 2, except for the few warp zones strewn throughout the Mushroom Kingdom and Subcon. However, the bar needed to be raised with Mario 3 and Nintendo did just that. There were several ways for the players to skip levels on the map. They could use Lakitu’s Cloud to skip the level entirely but don’t die in the level after because you will be sent back to before the skipped level. Players could use the Music Box on the map to put the mid-map enemies to sleep to avoid playing them as well as using a hammer to break rocks on the map to create a new path. The item that everyone knows is the warp whistle or the flute as some call it. (Or maybe just me, I don’t know) The whistle allows Mario to skip entire worlds and if done properly, you can get to world 8 without really even doing too much. Being able to skip over most of the game just wasn’t common in the 80’s.Number 4- Level Skip-ability
