Gunvolt! Shocking!

It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually, it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. This time we're looking at Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 1+2 Dual Collection on the Nintendo Switch 2.

I'm going to try and keep this short and sweet for you. I have to say that I really like the direction INTI CREATES has taken their properties and Gunvolt Chronicles is another banger. This installment is the first two games of the Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX series. Fans of Mega Man X will want to check these games out. Players take on the role of Copen, trying to save the world.

The first game in the series doesn't have English dialogue but the second game does. I have to say that in my opinion, the second game in the series is the better of the two games. I like the voice acting, the characters and their designs, and the writing in the second game. That's not to say the first game doesn't have its moments.

For the playthrough I broke the playthrough down into the first game and the second. I wanted to show off both games because they have different playstyles and deserved to be shown off. The first game feels more like a run and gun like game, similar to Contra, where you can dash and lock on to enemies. You'll have to keep an eye on bullets because you can only dash when you have bullets remaining. Both games allow you to take on "robot masters" if you will in the form of the Gravekeepers. These masters will be tough but when you beat them, you'll gain their power to use in battle. The same style works for the second game but instead of a gun, you start out with a saw blade that can be used for combo attacks/motion attacks. I liked the gun combo system better than the saw blade because I found Copen moving too much at the start of the combo and thus hitting enemies.

The games do a nice job of showing off the backstories of the characters. In the main menu, you'll want to talk to different characters, so you gain trust/relationships with the other characters. That way, you can build up better attacks and skills. You can also purchase items/upgrades in the menu so make sure you save up money. You never know what you could need.

All in all, Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 1+2 Dual Collection is a nice collection that bundles both games together. It does have special bonus missions included as well as being able to play the games on the go. I mentioned before that fans of Mega Man X will want to check this out. I'd like to thank the folks at INTI CREATES for the review code.Make sure you check out the hands-on video below!
