Anime Girls Kicking Ass and Taking Names!
It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually, it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. This time we're looking at Kernel Hearts on the Nintendo Switch 2.
Kernel Hearts is an interesting take on the roguelike genre because it allows you to play it as a multiplayer game. For the video I played it solo as Fernet. I have to say that I love the character designs in the game. You enter the tower and go on runs to try and defeat enemies and bosses along the way. While there you can find different upgrades to try and make runs easier. You'll have to collect currency by killing enemies, opening chests or just by finding it out in the open. I would advise leveling up quickly because you'll find new skills by leveling up. It won't happen every time you level up but when you level up your stats will upgrade too.
Another interesting feature is that the longer you're in an area the tougher it gets. You'll see a gage that looks like a thermometer that fills up over time. The higher the gage is, the tougher enemies will be. An issue I had was with dodging attacks. The dodge isn't great as it feels more like the standard air dash move you have from the start instead of a steady dodge roll. It doesn't make things unplayable but it does take some getting used to.
Be on the lookout for money during gameplay runs. You'll be able to upgrade your character by buying chips that can be equipped to your character. You'll have to have enough memory to equip the upgrades but early on that shouldn't be an issue.
I like what I saw from Kernel Hearts on the Switch 2. There are a few minor issues like the dodge I mentioned earlier, and the jumps feel a little floaty. That being said, if you're looking for an anime girls kicking ass-type game that you can play with your friends, then Kernel Kearts is one you should check out.
