Join the strongest guild!

It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually, it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. This time we're looking at Fair Tail Dungeons on the Nintendo Switch 2. I have played the Steam version for a Chichuki Plays episode but always felt like this game would be a great fit on the Switch and here we are!

Fans of the anime, Fairy Tail, will be right at home with this game as it feels like another story in the anime. You'll see the liked of Natsu, Happy, Lucy, Grey, and more. You'll also have the ability to add them to your squad as playable characters for this deck-building roguelike. I recommend playing the tutorial so you can get the basics down, like how to attack, cast special attacks, change targets, etc.

The Fairy Tail guild discovers a dungeon under their guild hall and like all good adventures, they want to explore it. Natsu and Happy are the first to try and run into a little fellow by the name of Labi. Labi is looking for his friend who went missing inside the dungeon. Natsu and Happy think it's Gildarts but it turns out that the mage Labi is looking for is named Arthur. Arthur uses Land magic, and he created the dungeon.

As you progress inside the dungeon you'll run into all kinds of challenges. Those range from monster fights to treasure chests. Depending on the color of monster on the map, you're fight could be simple or super difficult so plan accordingly. You could also find a campfire where you can rest up/regain HP or enhance a card in your deck. You might be able to make a card cheaper to summon in battle or give it better effects. You could also run into a trader who will sell you items to use in the dungeon. There are event spaces that could range from all kinds of things happening. You might unlock a chest or crush a large pile of Lacrima. Lacrima is money so save up. You might also run into other characters from the anime so keep an eye out. There is a slight chance that you fail the event and have to fight monsters, but you'll be warned about the effects before you decide.

You have a certain number of steps you can take in the dungeon before you have to fight the end of level boss. Labi has a lantern with him and that's your step counter. Each space you move to in the dungeon is a step, but you can't go back to the previous space. To progress in the game, you need to defeat each level with a certain number of characters. You need to do this because you have to have Tombs of Remembrance. Basically, clear the run with multiple characters and you'll have that in no time. However, each character plays VERY differently. My playthrough with Natsu was very different as compared to my Lucy run. Lucy uses more Celestial cards/effect cards in her deck whereas Natsu uses more attack/power cards. Find a strategy you like best and play it.

Fairy Tail Dungeons is a fun deck-builder/rougelike game that fans of the Fairy Tail anime will want to check out. Make sure you check out the hands-on video below!
