Quack Quack!
It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually, it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. This time, we're looking at DUCK: Dangerous Ultimate Cartridge Kidnapper on Nintendo Switch. Fans of games like Wario Ware will want to check out DUCK.
You and your duck pals find a new 100 in 1 video game cartridge but it isn't all fun and games. It turns out it was a trap devised by the evil robot, DUCK or the Dangerous Ultimate Cartridge Kidnapper. You'll have to beat all the games to escape the evil DUCK clutches. You play each set of games as a different duck and each duck has 20 different games to play. Beat all 100 and you'll be set free. There are different genres of games so play and find your favorites.
The game tries to be like Wario Ware where you play a lot of games in a short period of time. That being said, some of the games are pretty rough. The controls aren't the best and there are times where it is tough to tell what you're supposed to do in each game. There are instructions before each game but they still don't do a great job at times. There is also a bit of downtime between games if you win or lose. Games like this want you to play quickly and DUCK takes a bit of time between resetting games or moving on to the next one. There were a few mini games that just didn't play very well like the cheerleader mini game where you have to react right after the whistle blows. This one and the Flappy Bird clone might have been two of the games that controlled very poorly. There were times when I was through the cutout, clear of the space and would hit the back corner. Overall the games were interesting but there were some that I didn't like.
At the end of each set of games, you'd play a boss mini game. These are some of the better games because they're longer and give you more time to figure things out. That doesn't mean they're all winners. The one where you have to find all the keys and escape in the backrooms like game wasn't fun. The locations all look the same and it says you can use your wits/skills to find secret doors/stuff but my character's portrait is so small, you can never tell.I really like how the game is going for an old school NES vibe. Most of the games look like they could be on the NES or Game Boy Advance.
DUCK: Dangerous Ultimate Cartridge Kidnapper is an interesting idea for a mini game compilation. However some of the games don't control very well and some of them are just plain annoying. I'd still tell fans of the mini game genre to check out DUCK but know things could get a little frustrating.
