Speak softly and carry a big hockey stick!
It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. We usually play about an hour or so as I don't want to spoil too much for you. This time we're looking at Grifford Acaemy on Steam.
I really liked what I saw while playing Grifford Academy. I love turn based RPGS and this game has that in spades. Long story short, Erika gets transported into a strange world and has no idea where her brother, Ernest, is. She assumes that Ernest is also in this strange location so she decides to look for him. It turns out the whole academy has been transported to Caldria. Erika, with Viva and Cap, have to go back inside the book of Caldria and find out what happened.
You will run into all kinds of people during your journey. Those same people could turn around and ask you to do things for them. Basically you will have quests to do for these people and you'll get rewards in return. You might have the shopkeep gather items so he can sell better tools. You might help the lady who sells medicine so you can get better potions to use. The quest will help you get better tools, rings, and weapons. You will also be able to use these quests to help level up the party too. You'll also be able to help your party grow as people. What I mean by that is you'll see prompts during the journey to interact with the party. For example, Cap gets mad at Viva for getting them lost. Viva starts doubting herself but Erika calms Cap down and tells Viva to be herself. After doing that, you'll see that Viva grew as a character and gained points in one of her stats. You'll be able to do that throughout the adventure so keep an eye out.
The game is story heavy and that means a lot of reading so know that going in. If you don't want to know the story and get to know the characters, this might not be for you. One other thing I noticed was that I couldn't switch targets during battles so I had to attack one enemy and then kill it before I could move on to the next one. That wasn't a big deal except when the enemy had a retaliate attack set and I couldn't do anything about it. I'm chalking that up to early build issues.
