Check out Breath of Death VII: The Beginning Reanimated on Chichuki Plays
It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. This time, we're looking at Breath of Death VII: The Beginning Reanimated on Steam. Fans of retro RPGs will want to check this one out.
Breath of Death VII: The Beginning Reanimated scratches that retro RPG itch for me. It is a turn based RPG so right off the bat, it scores extra points with me. You start out the journey as Dem, the skeleton who seems to be a veteran adventurer. You'll learn the basics of combat at the start of your journey and pay attention because the combat is simple to learn but tough to master.
Every attack does damage and adds to a combo system. The more you have in your combo, the more damage your attacks will do. I think it would be a good thing to level up early in the game so you can learn some form of healing magic because enemies will hurt you if you aren't careful. Another interesting mechanic is when you level up. You're character will have two options so pick the one you feel more comfortable using or the direction your character is going in terms of attacks. You'll also gain new party members throughout the journey.
Graphically, the game looks fantastic. It looks and feels like I could pop the game into my Super Nintendo and play for hours. I also really like the characters and how they interact with eachother. Long games with bad writing can get old quickly but Breath of Death VII: The Beginning Reanimated doesn't feel like busy work. You want to level up so you can survive the next monster attack. I think my favorite part thus far is when Lufestopolis and we started fighting demon cars. Creations like that keep games like this fun!
