Check your plane the next time you fly. It might be a Lassplane in disguise.
It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Views, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. Today, we're checking out Kamikaze Lassplanes on Steam. I believe it's coming to Nintendo Switch as well but not at the time of this video.
Lets rewind a little bit. I was able to play Kamikaze Lassplanes at PAX East when it was brand new and loved my time with the game. Fast-forward a little bit and the game is out on Steam and will eventually come to Switch. In the meantime, take a ride on your favorite girl turned plane in style. Half shoot em up, half graphic novel, all fun!
You play the role of Walter, a member of the Sky Fortress and pilot of one of the Lassplanes. The Lassplanes are a select secret unit that helps protect the nobility and the lands. Their identities are kept deep in secrecy. So much that we didn't even recognize our own partner when she came into our room. Our Lassplane is named Alba Trosse and is one of the best Lassplanes around. She is a shy young lady that really gets along well with Walter. I really like the dynamic between Alba and Walter. They are very well written and if you didn't know it, you could think they have a sibling dynamic by how well they get along. I think things will be treated more as like lovers but you never know.
I find it really interesting that the game took the graphic novel route, which is does very well, and decided to add the shooter mechanic to it. In a way World War Two styled planes fit really well into the whole shooter thing. The interesting part is the whole lady who turns into the plane and then shoots/flies thing. Alba even has a Sailor Moon/Magical Girl transformation scene when you see her turn into a Lassplane for the first time.
Now lets get to other part of the game, the shooting sections. Think of the likes of 1984 and other arcade shooter games. The controls are tight and you shouldn't have to worry about running into things that will damage you. You'll also be able to gain special attacks and at times, there will be plenty of enemies on screen so plan ahead.
Kamikaze Lassplanes does have fan-service in it as well. It wouldn't be an anime-centric graphic novel without fan-service. Bathhouse scene is all I need to say here. There are in game scenes to collect and more characters to interact with. Kamikaze Lassplanes could be one of my sleeper "Game of the Year" picks as I had a blast playing it.
