The actress discusses her work in a pair of hit genre TV series from Xena: Warrior Princess to Spartacus.
How did your past success with Xena: Warrior Princess impact your role in Spartacus?
It’s really help re-define me as an actress because Xena would have some shticky elements. We would sometimes do really broad comedy. We’d do a musical and stuff, but on Spartacus you have to play it dead straight. For people to go on a journey you have to play it like it was absolutely real, so I live that character like she was the real thing and it was so nice to be able to go home to my children. I feel like Lucretia is kind of an Avatar. Really, it’s a fun way to live. The best thing about being an actress is getting to live other people’s lives.
What do you think of Ubisoft creating a video game, Spartacus Legends, which features characters from the TV series?
Is this the Spartacus app or something because I know they were doing fighting, but what’s Lucretia doing?
It’s a console fighting game.
Lucretia has some other tricks from what I understand. I did not know about the game. Thank you for telling me.
What do you feel this game adds to fans of the series?
Oh, well, it’s really cool. It’s been a franchise that’s successful and you want to have all those things. That’s the entire package, right? That’s the modern success, where it’s going to break off into all these different forms, so I’m psyched. I’m thrilled to be a part of it.
What do you think fans will like about this final season of Spartacus?
Their hearts are going to be carried on an insane journey. There are more wonderful bad guys, because if you’re going to have a great hero you need a great foe. The show will not let you down in that regard. There are more people to love to hate. And even though they’re bad, you love them anyway. You’re going to find with Crassus and Julius Caesar and Tiberius that you’ve got all new people to hate.
