Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment brings DC Entertainment's biggest super heroes together in brawler Injustice: Gods Among Us.

The game’s story line, which is being developed in tandem with DC Entertainment, serves up an explanation of why Batman would be fighting Superman. In the comic book world, these two super heroes have duked it out on occasion.

“Superman and Batman are traditionally known as both being good guys,” said Boon. “The other thing we explain is why it would be an even fight because many believe Superman would just defeat everybody immediately because of his super powers. We do explain these things through a very deep story that the player participates in. The title is a play on the word, Justice League. Normally Justice League is a band of good heroes, and we’re kind of asking the question, ‘What would happen if these heroes went bad,’ and that’s the whole reason for the name Injustice.”

Fighting fans will be able to explore a wealth of combinations as they pit super heroes like Cat Woman, Nightwing, Superman, Salmon Grundy, The Flash, Harley Quinn, Cyborg and Batman against one another. Within the game there’s a main distinction between the different classes of characters, which fall under the power characters and gadget characters. As an example, Catwoman falls under the gadget character category thanks to her cool weapons, including using her tail as a whip. In contrast, Superman, Solomon Grundy, and Wonder Woman are the more over-the-top power characters. They pick up cars and slam them around, while Cat Woman is more acrobatic and she can jump off cars and get herself out of the corners of arenas. She has these really long nails and all these scratching combos, so she’s like the ultimate female acrobatic character.

“My favorite is Nightwing, who’s an acrobatic character with two fighting styles,” said Boon. “He has these kail sticks that he uses in his normal fighting, but then he can put them together to create a really long staff that he can use for far-reaching attacks as well. He can combine the two weapons and switch between the two fighting styles.”

Boon said that this collaboration with DC Entertainment has allowed his team to add a NetherRealm twist to these iconic characters. While in the past super heroes like Superman and The Flash have been traditionally represented with just tights or a really skin tight uniform, the developer was able to create much more sophisticated costumes.
