Fans of the hit console racing game can take the action portable with their smartphones and tablets.
What are some of the environments players will engage in?
For Flatout Stuntman we did not limit ourselves in any way. While we start in the typical, dusty American countryside we all know from previous Flatout series, soon you will go to a desert landscape, to downtown highrise, to freezing cold snow themes, to typical farmlands in Kansas and to even space eventually. Besides typical location-based themes there are also themes that are not location based, such as the military theme: besides getting cool military vehicles (like a giant missile-launcher truck) you get to play with a Gears of War-like muscular soldier and the coolest character of them all: Agent Peel, in disguise as a banana. In short: for every theme we have in the game, we made vehicles, characters and especially fun missions. In the military theme, for example, you'll be dropped from a plane, dive from a giant aircraft carrier in the Atlantic, dodge sea mines in the underwater scuba mission and have loads of fun in the minefield near the military base. If you think that's the coolest theme there is, think again: Our QA department is convinced the Snow and Ice theme is going to be the most popular of them all.
How is this game different from others?
There are not that many (if any) games we know of where you can pull stunts like this. One tester once said this is like having Angry Birds on steroids, which I think was a very nice thing to say and is the easiest way to describe the basic gameplay mechanics. Although Flatout Stuntman is exactly that, it pretends to be much more because of its presentation, visuals and polishing. But basically, that tester was right with his description. Race your expensive supercar to the location you think is best to launch your character from, self-detonate your car, fly through the windshield and start scoring. Points are separated for limbs, body and head but the best scores you'll earn by hitting bonus objects, such as explosive car wrecks, barrels, coins, mines and many more of such.
What do you think tablet gamers will really like about this title?
Even after completing our QA round, we are still not able to answer this question properly. Some say it's the high level of visuals for a tablet, others say it's the gameplay that makes the difference, some say it's the wide range of content so everyone will enjoy this title but personally I hope it's a combination of all.
How do you see tablet gaming evolving over the next five years?
If we look back five years, we see that tablet gaming tried to equal console gaming. Proof of this being successful the last couple of years is the fact that consoles like those from Microsoft and Sony are changing their plans and work more and more like tablets. This means that in the next five years console and tablets will grow more towards each other, work together, and become one. As it seems, NVIDIA will take the lead role in making this happen on hardware level, and also towards developers because NVIDIA makes it possible to have one platform to work on instead of focusing on many different devices. So in the end, it will be easier to make games that everyone can play any time and everywhere.
