Not much has changed in some modes, but the new additions to gameplay – and Path To Greatness – are welcome.
Audio-wise, the game is as terrific as ever. The sound effects surrounding the court, including player chatter, organ music and cheering (or booing) fans, is superb. But what'll really hook you is the dead-on commentary, featuring Kevin Harlan, Clark Kellogg and Steve Kerr at their best. They occasionally stray from what's happening on-court, but are full of fresh comments about player and team performances, and sound bewildered and caught by surprise when someone pulls off an amazing play. It's still the best in the sports business.
As far as modes go, the return of Association and My Player are most certainly welcome, though there are only mild changes this time around. Still, if you're looking to create the ultimate in team management or player experiences, these modes are the way to go. You Denver Nuggets fans can finally justify management decisions and bring George Karl back on board as head coach. What? He did a good job with the team.
You can also head online and do some damage, as NBA 2K14's experience through Xbox Live and PlayStation Network remains quite rich. Taking on opponents – or "fools," as some basketball pros may dub them – is a lot of fun, and being able to keep track of your stats is good fun – especially once you implement the MyTeam features. Time to find some friends and rule the court.
