Even with mild issues, this is a must for role-playing fans.
It's good to run into some familiar characters as well. Hades is here from Hercules, voiced perfectly by James Woods, as always. In addition, you have loyal sidekicks Donald Duck and Goofy by your side, providing healthy back-up and a sense of familiarity. It's great to have them on the team, even if Mickey Mouse would've been a more obvious choice. Gotta save him for later.
The graphics look very polished in 1.5 HD Remix, to the point that the animations appear much smoother and the locations really engulf you, if they didn't before back on the PlayStation 2. However, the camera has a few hang-ups – literally – as it gets caught in parts of the scenery at times. No matter, as you can manually adjust it with the right analog stick at any time – a nice improvement over the use of trigger buttons in the original game.
Voicework remains top-notch for Kingdom Hearts, with Haley Joel Osment and company holding up well in the game's conversion to PlayStation 3. The music is very good too, with classic Disney themes that will bring back memories of the original properties.
As for gameplay, it's mostly engaging, with real-time battles and exploration at your fingertips. There are times when the platforming and backtracking can be a bit annoying, but overall, the battle system is unique and easy to grasp at the same time – a nice change of pace from simply selecting your party and letting them have all the fun.
