Capcom's latest entry in the series takes a huge step backwards.
That's on top of the other lackluster gameplay elements, including the poor drilling techniques you'll consistently find yourself stuck with, having to hold the analog stick just right to get the most T-Energy available. There's also tons of back-tracking with missions, even more than the common game should allow. Talking with NPC's in home bases seems like a novel idea at first as well, but it just never comes together like the developer intended.
Lost Planet 3 also doesn't have that great a presentation. The previous games, at the very least, had great graphics that represented a troubled world, even with the sudden change in locale in Lost Planet 2. In 3, they're just…there. There's nothing significantly special about the character design, nor the environments, as they repeat way too often. The Akrid creatures look good, but as I stated, there's only so many that pop up in the game.
Audio doesn't fare much better, between less-than-motivational battle music and below-average voicework. I almost expected Nicolas Cage himself to pop in and save the character that looks so much like him. Alas, it doesn't happen. Guess he has better direct-to-cable things to work on.
