Capcom's latest entry in the series takes a huge step backwards.
It sounds like the set-up for a good game, but, unfortunately, Lost Planet 3 just isn't. Part of the problem is that the gameplay is just plain boring at times. When you are in combat, it's usually against the same types of Akrid, with no real ingenuity introduced with their design. In fact, you'll find yourself in familiar boss encounters more than once, even after you swear you've wiped them out the first time around.
Enemy variety is just part of the problem. The game is just plain sloooooowwwwwww. Traveling on foot takes quite a while, and even with fast travel activated, you'll work your way through places that offer no real changes in variety. Ooh, look, an ice cave. Hey, another ice cave. Wow.
Things are even slower in your mech unit. Sure, it's a powerful thing, but it takes literally forever to get anywhere due to its slow, sludge-like pace. The first two games had better mech movement than this, giving you power and speed. Here, it's like driving a walking tank with a gimpy leg. Killing Akrids can be fun, but getting there is literally half the battle.
