The Komplete Edition is finally on PC/Steam, and for a bargain price.
Mortal Kombat is all about gameplay, and the classic feeling is back and better than ever. You'll be chaining together combos in no time flat, while also taking advantage of grabs and special tag-out maneuvers for certain matches. A new move, X-Ray, is an interesting addition, as you'll be able to bust out a pair of power hits, which come with bone-shattering results – literally. You'll dig inside someone's skeleton and watch their structure break apart from the impact. It's cool stuff.
The game does support online play, but with the sessions we had, the lobby is pretty barren at the moment. Granted, not everyone knows the game released, and it did come out right before 4th of July, so it's just a matter of time before it begins to fill up. From the matches we did have, it ran with very little lag, so if you've got fighting fans in the Steam community, go ahead and throw out your challenges.
Visually, Mortal Kombat remains a triumph, but you can see areas where it shows its age. Some of the character models – like Johnny Cage, are a bit lackluster, and the lip synching can be off at times. Not sure if that was a problem with the game or the computer, but it's hard to miss. Overall, though, it resembles Mortal Kombat to a tee, so if you're a fan of the series, you'll feel right at home here.
