Despite its visual flair and floor shaking soundtrack, Rush Bros. fails to entertain the platform racing genre

Ever wondered what it would be like to race inside a music visualizer? Well wonder no more because that’s exactly what Rush Bros., a platform racing game from developer XYLA Entertainment, hopes to achieve as you jump, slide and avoid obstacles all to the beat of the music. The game features both local and online competitive multiplayer where the music playing directly affects the pace of the game and how the obstacles and puzzles of the map react which could make it easier or harder depending.

Featuring select tracks from international DJ sensation Infected Mushroom, Rush Bros. boasts an impressive soundtrack to accompany its 41 levels. Quite possibly the biggest draw however is the ability to add your own custom music and soundtracks, so whether you’re in the mood for something with a heavy guitar riff or want to change it up with some sounds of the oldies the choice is always there. But aside from this feature, Rush Bros. has a hard time maintaining its longevity.

Visually the game is bright and vibrant with a wide range of colours that work well with the cel-shaded style of the characters and backdrops. The concept is really cool overall, however the level designs can be hit or miss with some making for unique racing platforms while others I found it difficult to even figure out where I was going. Game modes include Arcade and Remix, with Arcade being standard racing either single player or multiplayer, and Remix allowing access to a fast-forward mode that speeds up gameplay or survival which has you completing levels with no checkpoints or respawns.
