Despite its visual flair and floor shaking soundtrack, Rush Bros. fails to entertain the platform racing genre
Tight controls and controller support help the gameplay stand out and make it much more accessible to keep up with the fast-paced speed of the game. The addition of local and online multiplayer keeps it fresh and fun to play with friends. The ability to change music on the fly as well helps change the pace of the game as the level and its obstacles adapt to the speed and beat of the music making it easier or more difficult, but at the end of the day the gameplay wears thin quickly and offers little in terms of variety and replay value.
Unless the song chosen is very upbeat, it is often hard to notice a difference in how the level as a whole is affected. Coupled with very standard race features like collecting a key to open doors or avoiding traps, each level is pretty much the same thing in a different skin and can get rather repetitive.
Despite its bright visual flair and excellent soundtrack, Rush Bros. as a whole has a hard time maintaining interest for very long and quickly devolves into your standard platform racing game with little innovation. XYLA Entertainment also plans to expand the universe with new level packs, game modes and more within the coming months. Rush Bros. is currently available on Steam for Mac and Windows PC for $9.99 USD or in a 2-pack for $14.99 USD.
