Old school RPG for a Modern time!

It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually, it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. This time we're checking out Philna Fantasy on Steam. Fans of classic RPGs will want to take a look at this one.

I really like the start of the game where you're introduced to your character. You pick your class and then fall out of the ship that was transporting you to Votland. You have the option to pick of four races, each with their pros and cons. You can select from Berserker, Ranger, Chrono Mage, and Assassin. I went with Assassin because I liked the look the best.

When you land, it turns out that you forget everything about yourself and have to learn the basics of adventuring. You need to remember how to fight and deal with all kinds of stuff, like buying items, crafting, and spells. What's also cool is that you can set the game to have connecting files. What that means is that you can play different characters in different files that share the pool of items. That way you can have all kinds of things for crafting. The inventory sucks so it might be a good idea to rely on someone else for your items. Fighting is simple enough and on the plus side, you have dodging abilities from the start. You have a limited amount that refresh after a bit of time. Level up your skills to survive. Most of the enemies will be easy but there are a few higher end enemies that could push you a little bit. There are dungeon bosses too and these are pretty tough. It's a combination between boss fight and bullet hell. Master your skills so you defeat said bosses. Along the way, you can have pets your journey. The pets can have accessories that can help them. That being said, the pets are supposed to help in combat/everyday life, but I didn't have my cat really help me in battle.

Locations are pretty big but on the plus side, you can fast travel to locations. You have to explore areas, but you will want to so you can collect more money/crafting items. That being said, the inventory is bad so you will have to drop things you might need. All in all, Philna Fantasy is a cool RPG that feels like it's paying homage to the classic RPGS of the SNES era. Fans of games like Secret of Mana will want to check this out.
