Is Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move just another eshop puzzle game?
Mario and DK: Minis On The Move is the next installment in the popular Mario and DK series from Nintendo. Mario and Donkey Kong have put aside their differences to join together in the fun. I guess all is forgiven for DK kidnapping Pauline and Mario trapping DK and forcing DK Jr to save him, but I digress. Minis on the Move is a fun eShop game that provides hours of game play and isn’t that pricey at ten dollars. The game play might get repetitive after a while but that’s what the mini games are for. Without delay lets get to it, those Minis aren’t going to walk by themselves. Oh wait…..
There are four modes to the game and you unlock one after beating the first ten stages of the game mode, each with simple stages at the start. After that, they get tougher and tougher. For example, conquer the first ten stages of Mario’s Main Event and then you unlock Puzzle Palace to play. Each mode has different rules to play by and adds to what the game offers and makes the game that much more challenging. Mario’s Main Event is the basic mode for Mario and DK. You need to use the tiles that are provided to get the mini to the goal. You can only have up to five tiles in the pipe surplus and to get more, you have to use the ones you have.
Sounds easy enough right? For all the "find everything" people out there, there are three Mario “M” medals strewn throughout the stage. Collect those to get a star on the stage select screen as well as currency to use to unlock different things such as mini game levels. Like I said before there are four game modes to unlock and each mode has a different “mascot mini” as I’ve dubbed them, to go with the mode. When you unlock Puzzle Palace, you unlock the Mini Princess Peach as well to use in the game mode. You have options in what mini to use in each game mode so if you have a favorite then use the heck out of that mini.
Anyway, Puzzle Palace stages give you a certain number of tiles to use to get the mini to the goal. Same basic game play as Mario’s Main Event with regards to collecting the medals but you a limited number of moves to make. One wrong decision could be curtains for your mini. This mode adds another challenge for players that find Mario’s Main Event not tough enough. There isn’t a time limit in Puzzle Palace, which there is in Mario’s Main Event but I will get to the time limits a little later. The Puzzle Palace lets you play at your own pace and doesn’t rush you to finish quickly. I feel like Mario’s Main Event eases you into the game play and Puzzle Palace eases you into tougher challenges. The game has modes for everyone to enjoy so let’s stop wasting time and get to the next one!
