Can this expiremental spin-off slice through the reputation of its predecessors or is it a dull entry into the franchise? Find out in our review!
The gameplay of Metal Gear Rising is truly a fun unadulterated experience. While the Metal Gear Solid series primarily focused on stealth, Revengance is all about action. You will run into hordes of cyborgs and Metal Gears and it is up to you slice your way through your enemies. The combat is solid and easy to master. Throughout the game Raiden will have access to a variety of weapons including a sword and long-range staff. While his sword is his primary weapon of choice, the staff allows for some truly cool combos to dispatch a group of enemies at one time. Each fight is graded similar to the Devil May Cry series and you earn points to purchase upgrades for Raiden. Players can enhance Raiden’s suit, weapons, and increase his move set. This is necessary as the boss fights become more and more challenging.
The battle with wolf is one of the more challenging and rewarding battles in the game.
Challenging is a keyword because while the battles in the game are difficult, they are never frustrating. The game also has a feature entitled “Blade Mode”. In this mode Raiden can slow time and precisely hack away the limbs of his enemies. Players are rewarded for this dismemberment by collecting the left arms of certain cyborgs in order to gain more abilities as well as being able to absorb their essence to refill Raiden’s health. This feature never gets old and it is important to master in order to deal with deadlier enemies faster.
Believe it or not, this is one of your allies!
