Now that we've gotten the crap out of the way, let's count down the best!
6. Silver Linings Playbook
While there may be a slight conspiracy regarding The Hunger Games not being on this list (I'm a sucker for Battle Royale myself), we will give Jennifer Lawrence her due, especially in this wonderfully loopy comedy/drama from David O. Russell. She's a maniacal-type widow who somehow hooks up with a freshly released neurotic (Bradley Cooper) through the power of dance, all while he deals with his football obsessed dad (Robert DeNiro, in fine form) and other problems. Featuring humorous moments and genuine feeling galore – not to mention Lawrence in all her sexy bravado – Silver Linings Playbook is the kind of offbeat love story that truly works.
5. Skyfall
James Bond's return is complete, now that we got past the muck that was Quantum of Solace and came back to everything that Bond is supposed to be. Between Sam Mendes' brilliant directing, Daniel Craig's absorption into the emotion and power that the role of Bond brings, and Javier Bardem bringing a true sense of villainy as his power-hungry Silva, everything just clicks for this latest adventure, despite the lack of too many over-the-top action sequences. It all just sizzles and comes to a close with a great conclusion, one that paves the way for even better adventures to come. If Skyfall can be topped, that is.
