During the dog days of summer, let new Pokemon info cool you down.
There were details revealed about version exclusive Pokemon, a main theme in the franchise since the Red/Blue days. Fairy type Swirlix, only found in X, has the Sweet Veil ability that keeps your Pokemon team from falling asleep in battle. It also has the ability to learn the new Fairy move, Draining Kiss, drains HP as well as restores it. On the flip side, Spritzee, also a Fairy type, will be exclusive to the Y version. Spritzee will be able to use the Aromatherapy move that cures status conditions in battle. It was also revealed that Clauncher and Skrelp, who were revealed at the Pokemon Developers roundtable at this years E3, will be version exclusives with Clauncher in X and Skrelp in Y.
Now, in every main-series Pokemon game, you have your professor who helps you get started on your journey and the evil organization that wants to take over the region. X and Y are no different and why would you think the formula would change now? Allow me to introduce Professor Augustine Sycamore. He will be who you get your starter Pokemon from and give you your Pokedex. So he will be giving me my Froakie to start my journey! There isn’t much known about Team Flare except they will presumably want to take over the Kalos region. Let’s hope they’re more like Team Rocket mobsters and less like the Peta of the Pokemon world, Team Plasma.
Two new Gym leaders were revealed as well, Grant and Clemont. Grant looks to be an extreme athlete and is good with bike riding and other sports. The other gym leader, Clemont, is an inventor and loves science. Who knows what new Pokemon related to their talents these new Gym leaders will have in their arsenal to battle with? There are new online features for the Pokemon series in X and Y. “O Powers” will give players benefits while playing and interacting with the Player Search System. It could be as simple as catching wild Pokemon easier to upping battle stats for a limited time.
Now for the new online feature that I really like, the Wonder Trade system. It basically is a random trade generator for the series. This could get rid of all of those trades where one side asks for a Pikachu and the other asks for a level 100 Mewtwo. The catch is you have no idea what Pokemon you’ll be trading for which adds a new element of surprise for the franchise. You could get the most common Pokemon or a really rare Pokemon and that’s half the fun of the Wonder Trade system.
It’s almost October so we won’t have to wait long for the next installment of the Pokemon franchise. I’m looking forward to seeing how long the series has come since the beginning!
