It should be the year of Nintendo Direct rather than the year of Luigi.

Today, Nintendo started to gear up for the E3 season with their first Nintendo Direct online presentation starring Mr. Iwata and a cameo by Reggie at the end but that has become the norm for Reggie at this point. The Nintendo Direct didn’t have too much mind blowing news but with E3 coming soon, this was probably expected. However, there was news all the same so let’s get right to it.

For starters, Nintendo will be having another Nintendo Direct online presentation a little closer to E3, like they said they were going to do. It was revealed that Nintendo and Sega have created a partnership regarding the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. This would have been unthinkable in the 90’s but it’s a different time now, plumbers and hedgehogs getting along. Mario and Sonic will be going back to the Winter Olympics in 2014, something the National Hockey League isn’t too sure on, but I digress.

The game will play like the other Mario/Sonic games in the franchise but with updated graphics and controls. The Game Pad can be used for all sorts of things, like controlling a Curling stone or firing the gun in the biathlon. I’m still holding out hope for a stand along Mario Hockey but this and Mario Sports Mix is a good substitute in the meantime.

More news from Sega is about the new Sonic game, Sonic Lost World. It was described as an “Action adventure platformer” as well as an exclusive Wii U/3DS game. Sega fans must have been in their glory today with this as well as more Game Gear games coming to the 3DS Virtual Console soon. More info on Sonic Lost World will/should be revealed as well get closer to E3. That wasn’t the only eShop news revealed during the Nintendo Direct. Information on the Legend of Zelda Oracle games was revealed, like the price. The Oracle of Seasons and Ages will be available for download starting May 30th for 5.99 each but will be on sale for the first 3 weeks at 4.99 each.
