Unreal Engine 4 technology is powered NVIDIA demos.
What will Unreal Engine 4 bring to the mobile gaming space when it is available?
Unreal Engine 4 is great technology. It’s the most powerful engine we’ve done. It’s the easiest to use and it’s the prettiest and we’re just really excited to bring that to mobile.
What are your thoughts on the new Project Shield gaming device?
They’ve shownsome great Unreal games on Project SHIELD like HAWKEN and Real Boxing and they look great. Project SHIELD has a great feel to it. It really does feel like a game console in your hands. I’m pretty excited about it.
What are your thoughts on how the gap seems to be closing between what is currently available on mobile and what’s currently available on console?
Consoles go on a cycle and they’re getting towards the end of their cycle and NVIDIA is just ramping up and up and up all the time constantly, so that’s a good thing. It’s great to have powerful platforms for the home, powerful platforms for the handheld and powerful platforms for phones and tablets.
What do you think of games that are being developed today for the mobile space?
They’re pretty cool. You have to remember before things like NVIDIA’s Project SHIELD all these games were touch device games. It will take some time for developers to really embrace the idea of controller based mobile gaming, but it’s a really fun experience and I hope to see a lot of great games for that.
How have you seen Unreal Development Kit open up opportunities for the mobile gaming space?
We now have over 2 million unique installs in the Unreal Development Kit, which means it’s in a lot of hands and people are doing some really great stuff with it. Some people are shipping games with Unreal Development Kit. Some people are using Unreal Development Kit as a stepping stone and then graduating to full Unreal Engine 3 source code. We do a lot of work with developers that we think are really promising to make that step possible. We’re seeing some great content. HAWKEN is an example of a game that started on UDK and then went to a full Unreal Engine 3 license. And it’s very impressive on Project SHIELD.
