Being able to go into a store on a major game or system launch day and buying it is becoming a thing of the past. Preorder it to make sure you have it.
Sometimes waiting in line for hours doesn’t go your way. I remember waiting in line on St. Patrick’s Day for New Jersey Devils tickets and I just missed the cutoff. They have about 200 or so ten dollar tickets for sale the day of the game. The reason why this was a bid deal was Marty Brodeur, the goalie for the Devils, set the record for all time wins that night and every band Wagoner and frontrunner fan was trying to get tickets. Tough break but that’s how it goes sometimes.
I didn’t have to do all this waiting in line stuff for the Wii U preorder. I watched the E3 presentation online and thought I could wait a few days to preorder the system. I never thought people would be preordering it right after the presentation ended. I wanted the Deluxe system and apparently everyone did, seeing as though I couldn’t preorder it anywhere. I was desperate and got my name on the list at Gamestop to have a chance to preorder if they got more in. I was running out of ideas and I wanted the system day one. Then I saw the ad for layaway at Wal-Mart. I was desperate so I sent my mother over there while I was at work at MetLife Stadium and everything went off without a problem. I was shocked that nothing went wrong. Weeks went by until the big day came and we went to Wal-Mart early that day and picked up two Wii U’s on layaway with again, no problem. I think I’m going to preorder everything this way. I would prefer not to but if I have to, it’s a very easy way to get things.
To recap, It looks like the only way people are going to get a system day one is to preorder it. The art of going into a store on the release day and finding a few left over appears to be a thing of the past. You can get really lucky and get a system that someone preordered and didn’t go to pick up but you’re playing with fire on that one. Like the way of the video store, going to the store on the launch date and buying something, just isn’t done anymore. Games and consoles have become too popular and you’ll be kicking yourself if you miss out because you’re the only one who doesn’t have the game or system day one. Thanks for looking back with me and stay tuned for the next “A Look Back.” Make sure to comment if you have any suggestions for the next installment of the series!
