Company bolsters existing 3D and 4K original content pipeline.
3net Studios, the global production company from Sony, Discovery and IMAX, has begun principal photography on two native 3D television series for global distribution and is finalizing post-production on a returning series for the 3net U.S. linear service. In addition, the company has put three new native 4K television series into development to help keep pace with the growing worldwide demand for Ultra HD content.
“The global growth of 3D TV into the home increased by 72% in 2012, and we’re starting to see the impact of those 41 million new sets sold last year as consumers around the world look to their entertainment providers for compelling, original 3D content,” said Tom Cosgrove, President and CEO, 3net and 3net Studios. “And with a 2013 forecast of continued dramatic 3D TV penetration - and now a faster than anticipated rollout of 4K - 3net Studios is bolstering our current roster of original 3D and 4K production to keep pace with the growing demand from the global marketplace.”
3net Studios has begun principal photography on the all-new 3D original series Turn & Burn, a six-episode, hour-long, non-scripted reality program featuring the artistry and antics of El Reyes Garage in Venice, CA.; and Dark Secrets, an eight-episode, half-hour series with fictional recreations of supernatural psychic events. In addition, the company is in the final stages of post production on an all-new season of the fan favorite Hillbilly Blood: A Hardscrabble Life (12 X 30), which is slated for a special 3D/2D simulcast on 3net and Discovery’s Destination America Saturday, April 13 at 10PM ET/PT. On the ultra HD front, the studio has put three new 4K original documentary and natural history series in active development: National Parks Adventure, Metropolis and Made by Man.
