The Half the Sky: movement officially launches an interactive Facebook game: Half the Sky: the game.
I was beyond thrilled when I was recently offered a hosting position with Gamerhub.tv. And why wouldn’t I be? I’m a geek! And to top it off… I was immediately offered my first assignment: conducting interviews at an event supporting the official launch of, Half the Sky: The Game. When I heard Half the Sky, I knew this sounded familiar to me. A Google search jogged my memory and confirmed what I had already known.
The Half the Sky: Movement, started by advocates: Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl Wudunn, was founded in the hopes to end oppression against girls and women around the world. The movement has helped to raise money and awareness regarding pressing issues such as: sex trafficking, education, health, gender-based violence, and to promote the overall value of women. Word has spread about the movement through many different platforms: a book, a PBS documentary, a benefit concert, mobile games, and now… the Facebook game.
After examining the movement more closely, and as a female working in a male dominated industry, it was my distinct honor and privilege to except this as my initial task. Asi Burak & Michelle Byrd Games for Change Co-Presidents Preview Half the Sky Movement Video Game, Zynga Executive Director Ken Weber Details Half the Sky Movement: The Game, and of course… Pulitzer Prize winner Sheryl WuDunn Details Half the Sky Movement: The Game. More inspiration came later when celebrity advocate, Olivia Wilde, was given the floor to deliver closing statements about the importance of the game and the movement.
