Tame those monsters!

It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually, it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. This time we're looking at Lumentale: Memories of Trey on Steam. It's a monster tamer game with an interesting story so check it out.

The game has an interesting start to it. A young boy named Ales finds the main character, Trey, passed out in the woods. It turns out that Trey is like a robot and needs to reboot. In the reboot screen, you are asked a series of questions, like a personality quiz. That quiz will be how the game decides your first Animon when the time comes. The Animon are the monsters of Lumen and the designs are pretty cool. When you get to Anispace, you have the option to pick one of five Animon, the one the game picked out for you or any of them based on your choice.

You'll be able to use the Holoken to interact with your surroundings as well as attack Animon. You can throw it into Animon and start a quick-time game with button prompts to catch Animon. You can also throw the Holoken into Animon who are weaker than your current Animon and avoid a fight all together. It is nice that you can skip fights and gain experience for your team. A few minor issues I had during gameplay. One involved having to aim the Holoken with the right control stick. I'm not the biggest two sticks kind of guy and aiming with the second has been tough for me. There were times when I would enter a battle with one to two Animon when I know all my Animon should have been alive. An experience meter/gage would have been nice as well, just to see when team members were going to level up.

Lumentale is a monster tamer game similar to Pokemon. It takes things into a different, darker direction and in turn, stands out in the crowded genre. I'd like to thank the devs for the review code.Make sure you check out the hands-on video below!
