Check out this monster catching game at PAX East!

My next appointment at PAX East this year was at one of the bigger booths at the convention. We were able to get some time at the Aniimo booth to see just what all the excitement was about. By the looks of things, almost everyone stopped by the Aniimo booth because a lot of people had bags from their booth around their shoulders. Safe to say, after my visit, I also had an Aniimo bag on my shoulder.

For those who don’t know, Aniimo is similar to Pokemon as it is a monster-catching like game. At the same time, it is different enough to make it feel like a new experience. Long story short we become a member of the college and a member of the Polaris Institute. We will also have explore the large land of Idyll so we should see a large amount on Aniimo, We’ll also be able to find all kinds of items strewn about, such as various eggs and items. We’ll be able to use items to craft equipment so keep an eye out.

On our journey, we’ll have to catch different Aniimo as well as get video footage for our records. Aniimo have different abilities like being able to break rocks, dig, or glide. Different abilities make traveling easier so keep an eye on which ones you’ll need. You can also make Aniimo fight and in turn, level them up. They’ll learn new skills and could evolve into brand new, stronger forms. You’ll have quests to do while journeying as well and that can level up your player as well as your monsters.

You can have four Aniimo in your party at one time but it’s easy to switch on the fly. I don’t like the idea of not being able to play without a controller but being able to type 1,2,3, or to switch your party is quick and simple. Catching Aniimo is simple. You can either sneak up on them and throw an Aniipod capsule or attack them with your own Aniimo, weaken then and then capture them. There is a quick capture feature that I really like. I also like the idea of being able to set the objective and that path will show up on the map/screen so I can see where I have to go.

“Twine” is a cool feature in Aniimo where you can transform into your creative and fight with it. It’s kind of like your soul and the animo soul is becoming one and that’s the reason why you can transform into said Aniimo. Being able to attack like this as well as locking on to the target feels good. I also really like the character/monster designs in the game. There were a few translation issues/typos in the PAX East demo but it was still really fun.

There will also be multiplayer options as well as the main game. You’ll be able to team up with people for mini games as well as having their own RV. Owning an RV is a big responsibility in real life and is cool in Aniimo. You’ll be able to interact with other people, build things, crow crops, and make the area your way. Combine this with the player customizations and you have a wide range of making things the way you want.
