Action Anime RPG! Yes please!
It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually, it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. This time we're looking at Granblue Fantasy Relink Endless Ragnarok on the Nintendo Switch 2. I played the demo that was on the Switch a few months ago so let's get right into it.
For the record, the demo that was available showed off more of the online aspect of the game where you could fight different monsters online with people whereas the hands-on video is more the main game and story. It's not that the online missions aren't part of the main game/story, it's that you need to accept quests from the main town to be able to play them with friends. You can play those quests by yourself, as I did in the video, but as I said, you have the option to play online too.
I have to say that I love the character design in Granblue Fantasy Relink Endless Ragnarok. It really feels like you're watching an episode of an anime. At the start of the game, you get a bit of a "last time/here's the story so far" recap and that's nice to see for people who might not be as familiar with the series.
Fans of action role playing games will want to check this one out. The game runs pretty well on the Switch 2 as there were only a few minor hiccups in terms of lag. I was impressed by that because there were times where there was a lot of action. Also, you have a lock on and a dodge mechanic. If you have read anything from me, then you know I love when games give me a dodge and lock on.
You get to pick from a man or a woman captain, who actually has voice lines. In games like this they usually don't give the character dialogue so that's a nice touch. Combat is pretty straight forward where you can lock on enemies and then switch off to new targets on the fly. You can also use special attacks which with the lock on, are seamless to use/aim. You'll be able to level up your team members and that will allow them to learn new skills and attacks.
The first few party battles you can use your full roster but after you make it to the first real town, you then have to set it to be a four-person squad. You can level up individual party members so if you want certain members to be super string, you can. I would make it my business to locate everything strewn about in locations because you never know what you'll needs to craft add level up. I was able to level up most of my party with skills from their skill trees the first few times for almost all of them because I was exploring and finding all kinds of stuff.
In combat you'll be able to use team link attacks and when you fill the bar under your HP bar, you'll have the ability to use Skybound Arts attacks. These are like your super, super move that does massive damage. You'll also be able to use those moves to set up a Chain Burst. If everyone does their Skybound Art in succession, then if becomes a Chain Burst and is super strong.
I have to say that I'm really impressed with Granblue Fantasy Relink Endless Ragnarok on the Switch 2. It runs really well and graphically its impressive. The designs of the characters are crazy cool and the voice acting is really well done. Katalina and Rosetta are two of my favs thus far!
