Happy Halloween!

It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually, it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. This time we're looking at Gumball in Trick or Treat Land on Steam. This is a DEMO build of the game but it's still fun. The game volume might be a little loud but I wasn't able to lower it. Sorry!

What better way to get into the Halloween spirit than with a game all about Halloween. This game pays homage to the old school Game Boy Color games of the 1990s. It's a simple idea that goes an extra mile that I wasn't expecting. I started playing the game thinking it was going to be a routine platforming game. The first RPG-like battle where I was throwing candy at candy corn enemies, I knew this was going a direction I didn't expect. I also like the idea of being able to pick your character by picking your favorite gumball flavor/color. I also like the fact that magic spells are shown as unreadable text when characters are chanting them. It makes it feel like magic is mysterious even in Trick or Treat Land.

Adventure platforming games like this need a way to save/travel quickly. Luckily, you can save from the main menu screen anytime you need to. You also will run into an interesting figure named Stumply, the stump. You'll be able to interact with Stumply as well as have him be your check point. If you lose a fight, you'll be transported back to the last Stumply you talked to. Make sure you interact with all of them so you don't lose progress. I have to say, the game is very charming as I like the writing as well as the music.

I'm big into RPGs and Gumball in Trick or Treat Land has a pretty good combat system. Think something similar to Pokemon or other turn based games but you attack with candy, items, and spells. You can also rest during combat to heal your HP. Be aware that attacks can miss and sometimes, enemies will not attack. Take that time to heal up or go for the kill. You can also use items to heal your HP or increase your skills like attack strength. You'll find all kinds of items throughout the journey that can help you in your quest. I found myself exploring everywhere so I could find all kinds of things to help me. You'll want to fight enemies so you level up. It will help you survive if you level up because your stats will increase. There will be times when you need to pick between HP and magic when you level up. I went with HP because you can always recover magic in battle when you recover HP. The more HP will help you survive.

There are monsters, vampires, and more enemies in Trick or Treat Land. Spiders, pumpkins, food, and scarecrows too. Play the demo or the full game to get into the Halloween spirit!
