visual novel/roguelike hybrid

It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually, it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. This time we're looking at Forsaker: Ding Ding and Blade on Steam.

Forsaker has a story more that plays like a cool graphic novel. It also has an adventure mode that plays like a roguelike, deck builder. The story mode as an anime feel to it and some pretty good writing too. If you want to enjoy the journey, play the story mode. The action is in the adventure mode where you get to build a deck and venture through the game. The story mode allowed me to show off some of my favorite voices to perform during these types of videos. I'd recommend playing the story mode first, so you get to know some of the characters you'll interact with in the adventure mode.

The adventure mode is a deckbuilding roguelike that also plays like an RPG. You'll be able to unlock skills/talents to make gameplay easier. You'll be able to unlock talents that can be used in battle for little to no points. Battles are pretty straight-forward as you'll have a certain number of attacks per round. You'll want to build up shields so you can defend attacks form enemy monsters. Along the journey you'll be able to add to your deck with better cards. You'll be able to upgrade cards for more attack damage or get better cards that play into your style. Pay attention to the enemy so you be prepared for what they're going to do. They could attack, they could use shields, they could use special attacks. You will have to learn how to see what's coming so you don't take too much damage. Wining a round will result in a reward so you can get better cards too. You'll also gain experience points and gold. You can skip adding a new card and collect silver shields instead.

You'll also be able to recruit companions to join your quest. They will help in battle so keep an eye for them. While on the journey, you can stop in a shop to buy things. You'll also be able to stop in a camp to have the knights heal your HP. You never know what you'll run into so keep your health up. You could run into rando events across the way too so be prepared. There will be a boss at the end of the path and if you aren't prepared, you will get destroyed. A nice part here is that you can retry the battle or read the story part of the battle without having to fight. The game gives you plenty of options to enjoy the game.
