Check out the RPG/Metroidvania Combo!

It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually, it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. This time we're looking at Fallen Tear: The Ascension on Steam. Fans of Metroidvanias will want to check this one out.

You play the role of Hira as he explores the land of Raoah. You'll need to find different abilities to explore the vast world. You'll also be able to upgrade stats and skills to make things a little bit easier for you. There will be quests/missions for you to discover on your journey as well. These will help you in the long run because you'll be rewarded for completing them.

During your journey, you will run into all kinds of colorful characters. These characters will help you over the course of your journey by lending their abilities to you. These are Fated Bonds. For example, Bjorn joins the party and he throws his cooking pan to damage enemies. These remind me of Hidden Machines in Pokémon where the party uses moves outside of combat to progress. You'll also be able to upgrade bonds over the course of time. this is like your skill tree where you can upgrade attacks/skills. You'll be able to rest up at campsites and those are usually in locations before a boss fight.

Games like this that give you a double jump or wall jump early in the adventure are ok in my book. The wall jump is very similar to Mega Man X; how X grabs the wall and jumps on/off it. It appears that you can only do it in certain locations so that's a little bit of a bummer.

Fallen Tear has the look and feel of a classic RPG/Metroidvania. The art style is very charming as well. I had a little bit of trouble getting it to run on my PC but that didn't take away from the fun time I had with the game. Give it a look!
