Dice, Dice Baby!

It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually, it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. This time we're looking at Soulblaze on Steam. Remember this is an early build of the game. This is a nice combination between Pokemon and roguelikes, which is an interesting idea.

Play the roguelike and defeat the enemies. Along the way catch animon to aid you in your quest. In the demo, you'll have the option to pick one of the four animon to start with. I tried all four and got destroyed with three of them. The only one that I managed to get past the first encounter was Difdagua. I think he was a water type but he could be a lizard too but i digress.

Collect monsters and roll dice to attack. You'll need to roll high values so you can survive encounters. You get two dice per round so you'll be able to use two attacks if you have the right value. You'll also have to build shield values so you can defend incoming enemy attacks. An interesting concept it the capture mechanic. You have Bindshards that are like Poke-balls and you roll your dice to catch. If the value for capture is met, you catch the animon. If you don't then you fail the capture. Along the way you'll find stores, random encounters, trainer battles, and more. You'll also be able to find stickers through the journey that will help your team. I really like that you don't have to equip the stickers so they'll help your whole team.

The game goes in a different direction for how type advantages work. There are different dice types and different animon types. There are some dice that you don't need to use any attack and then there are specific dice you need to perform certain attacks. The battles at times can move at a snail's pace so be ready for a grind. If you roll doubles, your attack values will double. At the same time, shield attack values will double too and that's what takes so much time. Being able to speed up the battles and maybe have more than two dice could benefit the game.

Grab your Bindshards, pet your Animons, and go on an adventure. This game is a creature collecting and dice rolling roguelite. Fight your way through several regions and beat their bosses, build your team as you go, find consumables, teach your creatures tricks, and become the strongest Animancer!
