A Pirate's Life For Me!
It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. This time, we're looking at Trident's Tale on the Nintendo Switch.
It's time to be a swashbuckler and take on the life of a pirate. You play the role of young adventurer/pirate Ocean when we find an ancient relic and disaster strikes her island home. Fans of Dark Souls will be right at home in this game as the battle mechanics are very similar. I was also getting Bloodborne vibes too because you can stun enemies with a gun and use that for combo attacks. The combat is a little tough at first but once you get the hang of it, you'll be killing skeletons like they were nothing. You'll also be able to craft items and upgrades for your buccaneers so make sure you collect things. They will be strewn about the land as well as enemy drops so keep an eye out. You'll be able to find new crew members along your journey and these folks have abilities that will be very useful like stun damage.
It wouldn't be a pirate game without pirate ships, right? Trident's Tale has you take control of a ship as well as combat on the high seas. You aim your cannons by moving the camera and sorry to say, the aiming is bad. It feels like there is only three directions to aim your cannon at enemies. On the plus side, you can use healing potions/items while aboard your ship so you can heal said ship. I really enjoyed the voice acting from the narrator of the story. The rest of the characters performances were ok. To sum up, Trident's Tale is an interesting souls-like game in the world of pirates. The story and locations are pretty cool but iffy controls and so so voice acting hold this sea shanty from taking off to it's full potential.
