Jump on your board and ride!
I was lucky enough to get some hands-on time at the Playism booth at PAX East this year. Playism has all kinds of games that I’m into but there was one at the booth I really wanted to check out. That game was Skateboard Knight, an auto-attack game where you have three lanes to protect from vile creatures and monsters. All you have to do is move your knight up and down to the desired lane and the knight does all the rest. You’ll level up your character by killing enemies and collecting experience points like in the same style as Vampire Survivor where you attack and collect experience to level up. Each run is different so study up skills you like and keep an eye out for them or try different ones every time in this roguelite. You’ll also be able to get new abilities and powers during playthroughs.I found myself having fire magic, thunder magic, wind magic, and a quicker sword beam so I was the ultimate skateboard knight.
Skills stack so you can get all kinds of power-ups. When you get to level twenty, you can evolve into a new class, complete with new abilities and upgrades to explore. You’ll also collect money that can be used to buy items from the traveling Docha Yasu cart that is being pulled into a lane by the cutest puppy! This will be your chance to buy health items as well as a gem to level you up one level. You run into this cart at the end of a stage so you should have plenty of money. There was also a princess riding a Vespa-looking scooter that showed up from time to time during my demo run. She brings you a present that can help you on your journey but get out of her way because you can run into her, resulting in lost hit points. Every hit point will be crucial because there are boss encounters at the end of each stage. They can range from east to pretty tough. The demo had three levels and in turn, three boss fights. The female spider demon and the mushroom monster with dual-wielding pistols were the toughest. The spider was tough because she could block lanes with her spider minions and the mushroom was tough because his bullets traveled all over the screen and into different lanes. I really like the way the characters are designed and I really like the chili-like look of the skateboard knight. The bosses are really cool too and I really like the ones I mentioned earlier. I’m a fan of these “auto” games and Skateboard Knight was one I really wanted to see and it didn’t disappoint!
