Live out your Cowboy fantasy in Cattle Country!
It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. This time, we're looking at Cattle Country on Steam. If you ever felt like wanting Stardew Valley in the Wild West/frontier, then Cattle Country could be right up your alley.
Cattle Country tells the tale of your character taking the plunge of heading out west to make a name for him/herself. Picking up your whole life won't be easy but there are plenty of things to make it easier on you. The people in town will welcome you with open arms and want to help you adjust to your new life. Mayor Archibald is a kind man looking out for you. He will help you learn the basics and make sure you have things down before throwing you to the wolves.
Your land will need plenty to get going but you'll learn how to cultivate the land. From growing crops to breaking rocks, you'll have to do all kinds of things. You'll also be able to sell things and make a profit and you will need to make money to buy new things for your farm to succeed. As I mentioned prior, the town is full of nice people and they will welcome you with open arms. An early quest is to introduce yourself to everyone in town and that's a nice opening quest because the town is a little bigger than I thought it would be. You'll meet the Butcher, the Carpenter, the Sheriff, the Doctor, and more. The more you interact with people, the better your relationship will become with them. You never know what a long lasting relationship will do for you. You might be able to get a hidden quest or eventually find love with someone in the town.
There's also plenty of mines around that you can dig into. You never know what you'll find down in the mind but be careful. Early on, you have limited stamina and you will make yourself sick if you don't mind your stamina. Just like modern times, if you see the Doctor, you will have to pay for it so make sure you have plenty of money just in case.
Cattle Country has a lot of customization features as well. Right off the bat, you get to name your character, your town, and your farm. There is plenty of models to choose from as well as colors too. You can also craft items and tools and you get to pick the colors on those too. I really like everything I saw about Cattle Country but it felt a little slow to me. Moving around in town would have been a lot better if there was a run or dash button but I might have missed it. Other than that, I really enjoyed playing Cattle Country and am looking forward to more.
