Time for another Chichuki Plays with AntonBlast!
It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. This time, we're looking at AntonBlast on Steam. If you have been looking for a game to fill that Wario Land itch, then this might be the game for you.
AntonBlast reminds me a lot of Pizza Tower in terms of art style as well as playstyle. It's an easy comparison because both of those games feel like the Wario Land franchise played a big role in their development. Anyway, you play the role of Anton, or Annie, as they make their way through various locations. Satan has stolen Anton's spirit collection and it's up to him to get it back. It's an interesting idea where you playthrough each level, get to the end/spirit, and then get the heck out of the level. If you don't make it out in time, happy hour will begin and the explosions will take you down. After you make your way through different levels, you'll end up with a boss fight and they're pretty challenging and innovative. It also reminds me of games like Kirby Triple Deluxe where you can jump from the foreground to the background and vice versa. It makes puzzle solving and exploration interesting when you have to go from the foreground to the background. The writing and the over-the-top humor was really well done as well.
I remember playing this game at PAX East in the past and thought it was something to keep an eye on. Being able to play the full game, I like what I have seen thus far. It's tough to see where you have to go next sometimes but the graphics and writing make it easy to get through.
