Time for another episode of Chichuki Views. Fairy Tail Dungeons stars this time!
It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Views, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. Today, we're checking out FairyTail Dungeons on Steam.
Fans of the Fairy Tail anime and deckbuilding roguelites will be in for a treat with Fairy Tail Dungeons. Players will get to play with some of their favorite Fairy Tail characters like Natsu and Lucy and more. Different characters have different playstyles and that means different cards to build a deck with. For example, Natsu has more direct attack cards that hit for more damage. Lucy on the other hand, had more special attack and healing cards. Lucy is a summoner who would rely on gate keys to attack whereas Natsu used fire/dragon magic he could conjure on his own.
Enter the dungeon and lose your powers. That's an interesting idea to explain why magic users don't have their powers and need to rely on a new style of attacking. I also like the idea of combo attacks/cards but the theory takes a little getting used to. You have a limited number of cards you can play each turn. Combo attacks/spells highlight when you can use them but it takes a little practice to recognize the name/image of the card right away. You can redraw your hand for the cost of some hit points. In these types of games, I always felt like HP is like gold, the more you have the better off you are.
There are floors within the labyrinth and you have a limited number of steps you can take in each floor. There are all kinds of encounters you could run into while on the floor. You could run into a routine enemy encounter or you could find a safe zone. You could also run into a treasure chest to get new cards for your deck.
There was one major issue I had while playing Fairy Tail Dungeons and that was in combat. When there were multiple targets in a fight, I wanted to change the target I was going to hit. I thought I switched the target and then attacked but the game would attack the wrong target. It didn't matter in a normal enemy fight but I was getting pretty annoyed when it would happen in a boss fight. I wanted to attack an enemy that was going to do a lot of damage before the boss and switched to it but then attacked the boss. The game is still really fun but this issue makes things a little more difficult.
