More Chichuki Views. This time check out Terra Memoria
It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Views, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. Today, we're checking out Terra Memoria on Steam.
I do not hide the fact that I really like turn based RPGs and I have to say Terra Memoria is right in my wheelhouse. It also tries to change the RPG formula in terms of characters and I really like that. You have the strong rhino, Moshang, who happens to be into magic. You also have Syl, the Fox, who you might think is into magic but is actually into summoning. I really like the fact that you get side characters to help in combat, like Alto the Bard. He doesn't fight but he teams up with one of your party members and changes their moves. Attacks heal and healing moves attack which adds a ton of strategy.
The combat system wasn't too tough to get the hang of. You have your attacks and your healing moves; you know basic RPG stuff. There was a meter on the bottom that kept track of turns. You attacks take a certain number of turns and you're character would move on the meter that many. You could stun the enemy by taking all their shields and they move all the way to the back of the line. It's just another strategy in battle that you will have to keep an eye on.
Quest play a big role in Terra Memoria and the game does a nice job in keeping track of them for you. Whenever you complete a part of the quest, a stamp card will show up on screen and stamp that part of the quest. It's also easy enough to check on the main menu. You'll be able to equip different things to your fighters but the cool item was the pins. Different pins do different things. You will have to find them and equip them to your fighters. One might raise defense and another could be an attack boost. I would have liked to see a better map for the game because the world is pretty big and you basically get an zoomed out version of your location. You can zoom in but it doesn't show details for a world you probably aren't too familiar with. Again, it's a small issue and doesn't hinder the gameplay. I'd like to thank the devs for the review code.
