It's a new Chichuki Views. This time, we're taking a look at Steel Seed!
It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Views, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. Today, we're checking out Steel Seed on Steam.
In Steel Seed, you play as the team of Zoe, the heroine of the game, and Koby, her drone companion. In the game, you'll be able to switch between controlling Zoe and Koby to find different paths and activate different things in stages. I really like the interaction btween Zoe and Koby during gameplay. Also the world is on the brink of extinction and it's up to these two to explore and find out what the heck is going on.
Along the journey, you'll unlock different skills and attacks to master. You'll find a spot similar to a bonfire in Dark Souls where you can level up, heal your HP, and unlock different skills and attacks.
Steel Seed relies on stealth and staying in the shadows. If you don't, it could be the end for Zoe and Koby. There will be locations that have a ton of enemies and you will have to use every trick in the book to not get attacked by the whole group. That could mean using Koby in the sky to see all the enemy locations or it could mean sneaking up on all of them, one at at time, and taking them out. You have all kinds of ways to be stealthy so find the best one for you. Being able to crouch and walk into an area that makes you invisible to the enemy is fun too.
Make sure you know where the level up/S4VI spots are. Those are your save points and your safe zones. If you do perish, you will be sent back to the last check point area and if you killed a lot of enemies since, they come back and you'll have to sneak up on all of them again. One thing I hated was the magnetic walkways.
There are walkways that you have to activate in order for them to come to your current location. That being said, there were plenty of times where Zoe wouldn't double jump for me off the walkway. I was stuck for quite sometime because she just wouldn't make the jump for me. I eventually got her to do it but that was a hassle. I also found myself having issues with Zoe crouching when I wanted her to be sneaky and stay behind a wall. Luring enemies to your location is a fun way to stealth kill, if you don't pop up from a crouch.
Steel Seed is an interesting take on the stealth genre and it has a lot or promise. There are some issues with the game like controls not working everytime and a more usable map would be nice. That being said, I want to see more between Zoe and Koby as they feel like best friends and would be miserable without eachother.
