Find out the life of the King in Storyblocks: The King in Chichuki Views
It's that time again for another episode of Chichuki Views. This time around, we're looking at Storyblocks: The King for the Nintendo Switch. This plays a lot like a choose your own adventure story where you have the ability to build your own path. You have the option to help the young king figure out his path in life. Does that involve becoming a king or trying to climb a mountain and giving up? I feel like this game would have played a lot better if it was a mobile game or only had touch controls because I tried to play it was a Switch Pro controller and had all kinds of issues.
You should know right off the bat that you're going to be in for something when the title of the game isn't on the title screen. It was also difficult to tell where your marker was on the menu so you could tell what you were pushing. That being said, the gameplay isn't much better and it's a shame because I really want to like Storyblocks: The King. Your mission in each level is to pick where you send the king next. You have a certain number of blocks/path pieces and you have to use them all to proceed to the next level. The game tells you that you can only pick one path but doesn't do a good job in telling you you have to use all the pieces to move on. I found myself having one piece left, that could have fit in a spot but for some reason, wasn't allowed to put it in. There were also times where I wanted to zoom in and out more but couldn't. That was making it very difficult to see the whole screen and where I actually could place pieces. I also found myself picking up the wrong piece time and time again because the A button was the button used to pick up, place and confirm/cancel. Things like that just don't work!
Storyblocks: The King is a neat idea but fails in delivering the journey of the king with poor controls and execution. It's these reasons that I'm giving it a 6/10.
