Fans of Skullgirls will want to check this out!

I received information about a newer role playing game from the folks that brought Skullgirls to the masses and thought I would check it out. I didn’t know what to expect from Indivisible but right from the start, I knew it was going to be something interesting. Let’s get right into it!

To begin, this demo is the demo that crowd funding backers received when they supported the project at the $30 or higher level as well as being the PlayStation 4 version. The game looks fantastic and that’s one of the selling points since the graphics are hand-drawn as well as simplistic platforming.

You’ll play as Ajna as well as a few other characters in the area. Ajna is a bit of a tomboy but learned all she needs for survival from her father, who’s the guardian of their hometown. Anyway, you’ll walk into encounters similar to most 3D role-playing games and the controls for battle are pretty simple.

You’ll be able to perform simple attacks that correspond with the button on the controller and your level will determine how many attacks the characters can use each time they attack. Early on it will be just one but increase your level and you’ll be using two to three attacks at a time. You team consists of four characters and during the demo you stumble upon them in the “dungeon” like area where you get the full feel of all the available characters such as the magic user and the archer character.

Each character has different special attacks and some characters can heal the whole team so you’ll have to learn which fighters suit your play style best. While attacking in battle, you’ll build up Iddhi which is used for defense, special attacks and pretty much anything else in battle so you’ll have to learn pretty quick how to limit the use of Iddhi so you have it when you actually need it. During battle, you have the ability to use combo attacks with multiple party members and this was the only thing that felt like it would take a little getting used to. You need to use the corresponding button and direction on the control stick to perform certain combos and defensive maneuvers.

There was a defensive move that allows you to defend everyone in the party but that drained Iddhi very quickly. One of my favorite parts of the demo was the exploration factor in the area. What I mean by that is I didn’t feel like I needed to travel one direction at first, I could go wherever I wanted and then make my way back to that area if I needed to. The controls for Ajna while exploring were really fun too as you can slide under things and when you get your hands on the axe, you’ll be able to climb walls with it and aid in wall jumping with it. Climbing with an axe sounds really cool to me. For a backer demo, I was very impressed with what I saw from the graphical style to the simplistic controls. If this demo is any indication, Indivisible would be a game I would keep an eye out for in the future
