Video games and movies: Is there a light at the end of this long, dark and terrible tunnel?
In a similar way that comic book movies went through a series of trial and error, I feel that video game movies will too. And with the series of lauded titles that are in possible production, (Hello? Halo? You still there?) we most certainly hope so.
As an industry, I believe we are one of the most fan based in the world. It’s kinda awesome really. (The power!! Mwahaha!!) We really are hopelessly in love after all. And the companies that create our beloved pixels want to give back. Take a look at Ubisoft, the makers of the award winning series Assassin’s Creed. They agreed that they should make a movie. (I mean look at the game, it’s practically set up to be amazing. It would take a major twat to mess up this IP on the big screen.) Ubisoft created it’s own motion picture studio and went ahead and signed with Sony. But Ubisoft not only signed with Sony, they were given an unprecedented amount of creative control. The amount of rights that Ubisoft maintained is literally unheard of. A lot of critics say that this is going to be a bad thing because it will be Ubisoft’s first major motion picture and that they are inexperienced blah blah bleehhh. (Seriously though, when has it ever worked out when they give all the rights over?) But hold your horses there negative Nancies. Michael Fassbender and his production company have signed on with Ubisoft and he’s going to star in the movie. (AHHHHHHHHH!!!) Okay. So that’s encouraging. He was the cool part about X-Men: First Class.
