Video games and movies: Is there a light at the end of this long, dark and terrible tunnel?

Let’s all take a deep breath. It’s not as scary as it sounds.

In the last ten years, video games have really taken a turn for the better. And not just because of the enhanced technology, games are gathering respect from all kinds of people. The IP’s have evolved and developed further than anyone imagined they ever could. Some games are so visually stunning and emotionally gripping, that I consider them more like interactive movies. Yet when it comes to transferring a game into a major motion picture, we hesitate slightly and go, “Ehhhhh...”

Games and movies have always had a tentative relationship. From the successes of Resident Evil and Pokemon, (Don’t lie. You saw the first movie when it came out and thought Mewtwo was a boss.) to the face-palming bad Doom and Lara Croft attempts, it’s no wonder gamers are conflicted. A lot of us just want Hollywood to keep it’s dirty grubby hands off our characters and IPs. Leave well enough alone, right? I felt like that too. Especially when I found out they were thinking of a Halo movie. I whined in fear, “They can’t exploit my Master Chief! Not now! not neva!”
